Red Oak Plaza, a new office development in San Marcos, has been issued for construction.

Designed by Studio 8 Architects in Austin, the steel-framed building is built into the side of a hill, and features a double cantilevered second floor. The building will rest on deep drilled piers due to the poor quality, highly expansive clay soils, and the building’s lateral loads will be resisted by steel rod x-bracing between perimeter columns. A full-glass facade will accentuate the structure and will allow huge amounts of natural light into the work areas.

The project was developed using Revit Structure 2012, and designed using interoperable design programs.

Construction is slated to begin in late 2012.

CANstruction is an annual event held nationwide that as raised over 17.5 million pounds of food for community food banks since 1992. The Austin event benefits the Capital Area Food Bank.

This year, CJG Engineers partnered with KGA Architects, Lott Brothers Construction, and Cunningham Allen, Inc to build “Home Sweet Home.” The “Best Meal” award winning design design used 2,700 cans to build the gingerbread house.

The structures will be up until next Sunday, when deCANstruction will occur, and all of the cans will be donated.

In the past three years, CJG has been a part of teams that have donated over 8,000 cans of food through the competition and can’t wait until next year!

How did you end up working for CJG-Austin?

I started working for the Houston office in April of 2005 after a couple of short stints with a couple of other firms. Thankfully, I was able to transfer to the Austin office at the end of 2007.

Why were you thankful about the move?

Well, I grew up in nearby Wimberley, TX and have always loved the Austin vibe! I enjoy everything Austin has to offer: the food, the concerts, and the active lifestyle.

Sounds like you’re pretty active. Where can we find you on the weekends?

I’ll most likely be on Lake Austin. For me there’s nothing better than getting out on the water and riding behind a boat whether it be wakeboarding, wakesurfing, or wakeskating! I also enjoy spending time with friends and family or catching a concert/sporting event.

Anything else we should know about you?

Sure. I just got married to a great woman in February and inherited two great boys aged 8 & 10. We had a wonderful ceremony on the beach in Zihuatanejo, Mexico. Now, most of my time is spent keeping up with a couple of hyper boys that never run out of energy!
