EE Reed has completed erection of the rotunda framing at The Church Without Walls in Houston. The 81 foot tall structure is the architectural centerpiece of the Verret Group designed project, and is comprised of a complex array of space trusses and rolled steel members.

The center compression ring was built in the shop, and then held in place for approximately a week while the radial roof space trusses were installed. After all of the trusses were installed, the crane released the center piece engaging the tension & compression rings. Actual rotunda dimensions were within 3/8” of the dimensions shown in the design drawings, an incredible feat considering the complexity of the rolled members and non-typical construction.

CJG Engineers modeled the rotunda in RISA 3d and Revit Structural to provide the design and construction documents for the building, and provided a 3d pdf for field use during construction. The coordination efforts between CJG Engineers and EE Reed Construction led to greater understanding and smooth installation of the complicated centerpiece.

A new Texas Department of Public Safety drivers license megacenter broke ground in Pflugerville, Texas. The project is one of six new facilities planned across the state as part of a legislative initiative to attempt to reduce the frustration that accompanies Texans when trying to renew or obtain their license.

The Barry Bubis Architects designed Pflugerville facility is a 24,000 square foot, concrete tilt-wall and steel framed structure with an estimated construction cost of $3 million. The project is estimated to be complete in mid August, 2012.

The project was developed using Building Information Modeling.

Red Oak Plaza, a new office development in San Marcos, has been issued for construction.

Designed by Studio 8 Architects in Austin, the steel-framed building is built into the side of a hill, and features a double cantilevered second floor. The building will rest on deep drilled piers due to the poor quality, highly expansive clay soils, and the building’s lateral loads will be resisted by steel rod x-bracing between perimeter columns. A full-glass facade will accentuate the structure and will allow huge amounts of natural light into the work areas.

The project was developed using Revit Structure 2012, and designed using interoperable design programs.

Construction is slated to begin in late 2012.

CANstruction is an annual event held nationwide that as raised over 17.5 million pounds of food for community food banks since 1992. The Austin event benefits the Capital Area Food Bank.

This year, CJG Engineers partnered with KGA Architects, Lott Brothers Construction, and Cunningham Allen, Inc to build “Home Sweet Home.” The “Best Meal” award winning design design used 2,700 cans to build the gingerbread house.

The structures will be up until next Sunday, when deCANstruction will occur, and all of the cans will be donated.

In the past three years, CJG has been a part of teams that have donated over 8,000 cans of food through the competition and can’t wait until next year!

CJG is performing the site adaptation of the Gamberi Regional Hospital at ANA Gamberi Garrison in Gamberi Afghanistan. It is located on the site of the existing main ANA Gamberi Garrison located in the northeastern province of Laghman.

The project includes the construction of a 100 bed hospital complex including billeting and life support for approximately 235 medical and other required staff. It also includes all other infrastructure necessary to operate and maintain the hospital. Utilities will connect to the existing Gamberi ANA Garrison system, while a separate emergency power system will be installed for the hospital. The hospital will have a force protected perimeter wall with its own entry control point.

Structural services being performed by CJG Engineers include the design of the foundation system, force protected walls, entry control points and infrastructure support.
